These areas are build-up on the Labex PERSYVAl-lab, AMIES, MINOS, GANEX and the instituts Carnot LSI, ICI and LETI. A new building, PILSI, gathering 1000 researchers, conceived as an Innovation Park, supports this department.

The laboratories of this department are involved in national and international strategic research programs concerning, for instance, climate change, exploring the earth and the universe, and understanding the matter/anti-matter asymmetry. Besides these, they collaborate to investigate complex natural systems and their inteactions.
